NAARM has started one-year residential programme on “Post
Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property and Technology Management in
Agriculture (PGD-IPTMA)” to train graduates/post graduates in agriculture and
allied sciences in Jan 2010. For the information of readers, there are plenty
of courses available in the country, which are offered, by various law colleges
as NLS, NLU, NUJS and NALSAR ect.
for Intellectual property Rights but all courses are in distance mode and none
of the course was regular and specially designed for Agriculture or allied
science students. This course was the second academic course offered by Academy
after Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology Management in Agriculture
(PGD-ITMA).
We are providing a brief
of the PGD-IPTMA program as under;
Aim of Program:
The Programme was started
with aim to create Intellectual Property professionals with pool of knowledge
about various Agriculture or allied science practices and principals.
Admission to the program
and Students:
The candidates were
selected all India basis through a written test, followed by Group Discussion
and Interview. The first batch of 16 Intellectual students was started in January
2009 and successfully completed on Jan, 2010.

Curriculum Design:
The course curriculum was
designed and developed in deliberations with many senior executives from
agri-business industry, Law colleges, Technology transfer firms, LPOs, KPOs, Legal
consultants, academicians and policy-makers in government.
The academic faculty for
the contact classes is drawn from various sources including research/industry/business/legal-organizations-in-public-and-private-sector,
National Law Schools, technology consulting firms and KPOs working on IP and
Technology Management areas. The programme contents were designed to expose the
prospective students to concepts of Intellectual Property and technology
management in agriculture, real life challenges through case studies from
working professionals from industry, law firms, statutory bodies, and
innovators at grass root and at corporate levels.

Microorganisms for the Purposes of Patent Procedure, The International Union
for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), Convention on Biological
diversity (CBD), Paris
Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, Berne Convention, Madrid
Agreement for the Repression of False or Deceptive Indications of Source on
Goods, Lisbon Agreement for the Protection of Appellations of
Origin and their International Registration, Madrid Agreement Concerning the International
Registration of Marks, Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International
Registration of Marks (which also provides for the international registration
of certification marks) and many more topics.
Internship Projects:
As we all know that, Experiential Learning is an integral part of management education. Keeping this
in mind, the internship opportunity was provided for the students, wherein they
practiced many aspects learnt within the classroom. Post the third trimester,
students gone for internship for with organizations as Andhra Pradesh
Technology Development & Promotion Center (APTDC),
Sathguru Management Consultants, Advanta Seeds, SciTech Patent Art (SPA), National Institute for Rural
Development (NIRD), National Innovation
Foundation (NIF), KPIT Cummins, John Deere , Fox Mondal etc.
During internship,
students underwent rigorous training under the guidance of functional area
experts in the corporate. Students learnt many additional skills and expertise
required to be successful in the real-life work atmosphere. At the end of
internships, students prepared a report and submitted the certificate received from the internship provider organization,
which was considered as a satisfactory remark of assigned project completion.
Placements:
After the completion of internship, students attended interviews and got placements. This above said course
has been discontinued after completion of first batch in Jan 2010 and Academy
started two new courses i.e Post-Graduate Diploma in Management - Agriculture
(PGDMA) and Post Graduate Diploma in Technology management in Agriculture
(PGTMA). The PGDMA is two-year regular course approved by the All India Council
of Technical Education (AICTE).PGDMA’s 1st and 2nd batches
completed their course and working in many various agri. & allied sectors
organization. The 3rd and 4th fourth batch is pursuing
PGDM(A), (We will be updating more about
PGDMA students/professionals in our coming posts). PGTMA is the correspondence,
short and modified version of one year fully residential program i.e. PGDIPTMA.
Post Graduate Diploma in Technology Management in Agriculture is running in
collaboration with University of Hyderabad (UoH). Presently this course has
completed its first batch and 2nd Batch is going on…
Even, the PGD-IPTMA
course has been discontinued but the trained IP professionals (NAARMIAN) are
continue in their domains and doing excellent job. We are proud on them. It is true
that, we are not able to meet them as frequently, but they are in our
professional and personnel touch. We are seeking their advice/guidance in various
matters and will be continuing the same in coming years.
